Pawnshop

The pawnshop in Amsterdam has a beautiful restored facade with a phrase in old dutch "Tot behulp voor den noodtdruftigen is hier gestelt De BANK VAN LEENINGE voor een cleyn gelt".
Translated in english it says "To help the miserable ones, the pawnshop is there for a little money".
The pawnshop was founded in 1614 and is a municipal not-for-profit establishment. It is the oldest money donor of Amsterdam with six branches, two shops and an auction house.

And here you see the money rolling.

  1. I am so amazed with the beauty of this building. What they call a pawn shop here would horrify you, in comparison. There is this vast architectural beauty in your country, even at the pawn show. Just lovely Marianne - have a wonderful day.

  2. Okay...that is the prettiest Pawn Shop I have ever seen! I had no idea they even existed there!. They have certainly been around a very long time. Guess it proves there will always be a desperate need for quick money. just wish that the stuff pawned was always theirs.

  3. A totally different meaning of the words here in the States. Think one step above junk shop or thrift store.
