The Urn

This sculpture is called "The Urn" and is placed in the nature of the Kromslootpark in Almere. It is made by dutch artist Armando (1929). The sign on the foot says it was cleaned and placed here by the Rotary club in 2012. The word "cleaned" reminded me of a fire in the Armando museum in Amersfoort in 2007. A large fire struck the museum and burned thirteen of his paintings and many of other artists. I suppose this sculpture might have been in the fire as well.
I am linking to Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

  1. That urn is very large; I wonder what the word "cleaned' signifies, too. It certainly is not a household object--too big!

  2. Not something I would choose myself to place in the nature - guess it doesn't do anything for my level of "art", reminds me of volcanic rock and a large lump at that. Nice photo , shadow and colours.

  3. 8 read more about the artist...sounds like he was (is) multi talented.

  4. Looks like he found a uniquely shaped rock and thought "Hmm...I'll stand it on end and call it art".

  5. I agree with John. It does not look like any of my concepts of “sculpture” but I am not the sculptor, either. He probably put much time and thought into his piece.

  6. We should all be so lucky to become famous for standing a boulder up on its end.

  7. Must have inspired a very similar sculpture on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, made entirely of used newspapers.

  9. Ik vraag me af hoe het er uitzag voordat het werd schoongemaakt?

  10. Looking at this sculpture makes me wonder if it is hollow on the inside and what might be in there!

  13. That is a very large piece to be called an Urn. I wonder if there is a hole in the top.
