Drenthe peat

At the Drenthe Museum I had this delicious piece of turf ("peat"). The province of Drenthe is well known for its former peat-cutting so the restaurant serves a typically "Drents turfje" a well-filled herb cake with wallnuts, raisins and herbs.

Celebration

Last week I celebrated my birthday in a traditional dutch way with some family and friends sitting in a circle and eating cake with coffee or tea. We are used to this but I once read that for foreigners it seems a bit strange and dull to sit still and talk with each other and not have a party.

Here an impression of the cake and chocolate I had bought for my guests.
