But it was a very hot day, we are in a heatwave again, very unusual for late August here. Fortunately there was a pond to cool down.

Book Fair

One of the nice parts of the Üitmarkt is the book fair where publishers show their new books and discounted books.

Some authors are present in person as here "Marjan Berk"

 Cartoonist "Peter de Wit" who makes the comic "Sigmund" in co-operation  with Hanco Kolk. Hubby bought a comic strip with signature.

The "Uitmarkt" in Amsterdam is the presentation of the new Theatre season. There are many performances with music as here.

Cultural Market

Afters three months of sunshine the two days open air "Out-Market" took place this weekend in a chilly Amsterdam. It is the start of the cultural season where theaters, museums and publicers present their new items. The first day was soaked in downpours but the sunday was chilly but dry at least. This is the bookmarket with all kind of bargains.

Writers are present to sign your book. This is "Sigmund", a cartoonist.

And the writer Marjan Berk.

Uitmarkt

At the cultural market last Saturday in Amsterdam. The two are promoting a visit to the Province of North Holland an area with many windmills.

This is a hat of our former Queen Beatrix which is exhibited in Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn. Hunderd eleven of her characteristic hats are to admire at the exhibition "Chapeaux!"

The opening of the cultural season in Amsterdam is every year a big happening with a bookmarket with low prized books of the publishers.

Performances by all kind of artists to promote their upcoming programs, here a  Jazz orchestra.

Funny Fringe artists.

We made a free canaltour through the Jewish quarter of Amsterdam.

We walked from one location to another over bridges.

And special made walkways over the river IJ.

The weather was wonderful and everybody had a great time.

Colourful sign

At the Cultural Market last Saturday I saw this dog with a sticker that made me smile. ""De Bonte Hond" is the name of a theater company "The colourful dog" and at the same time it is the proverbial colourful mutt,  A bit difficult to translate in english as I am not a native english speaker. So correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway, the two dogs didn't mind to promote the company for an afternoon with a sticker on their back.

When I look outside at the moment the rain is falling down as usual... .So I turn my back to the window and go back to last saturday to get a better mood when it was summer at last and show you some more pictures. People enjoying the sunshine at the "Out Festival".

Cultural Market

The "Uitmarkt" (Out Market) is an anual cultural event in Amsterdam where the theaters and museums present their programs for the new season. It was a hot summerday yesterday, so perfect to be out and enjoy all the music and funny people.

The Van Gogh Museum had put a huge painting of Monet in the pond of the Museum square to promote an exhibition about Van Gogh and Monet.

There is also always a bookmarket with bargains and writers to sign their books.

I continue with the Culture Market I posted on sunday and show you some more pictures.

Every museum or theatre tried to attract attention with some striking items.

Posing as the "Dutch from the Golden seventheenth Age" to promote the Hermitage museum. The poor guy with the collar had a hard day with the heat.

And these boys posing as the "Dutch from the twenty-first Age" promoting their Fringe theatre.

There was music.

And when you got tired  you could enjoy the sun on the grass.
