Haddon Hall

Saw the movie "Downton Abbey" last night that brought back memories to my visit at another British Mansion "Haddon Hall" I visited last month.

The guide.

One of the former inhabitants.

Monday Mural

Not a mural but a painting on the ceiling in the Mansion Haddon Hall in Derbyshire England.

I turned this photo around to have a better look at the dog.
The paintings are from mid 16th century.

Leeds

Waiting for the train to Leeds in Dronfield.

Arrival at Leeds.

We had a few hours before our flight back to Amsterdam. These are the surroundings close to the station.

And this was my last photo with my camera, it suddenly stopped and I can't use it anymore. Have to find another one...

Bakewell

What an idyllic landscape Derbyshire in England has.

We entered the city crossing the river Wye.

Over this mistreated bridge with the stupid locks that tourist from all over the world think Europe likes this!

It was a sunny hot day and very crowded in the streets.

We climbed the steep hill to watch the church.

And here ended our short visit to England,  next day we returned home.

Haddon Hall

Haddon Hall is an English country house on the river Wye near Bakewell, Derbyshire. In form a medieval manor house. The origins of the hall date to the 11th century.
You can read more about the house "here"

There was a beautiful garden behind the castle, you can see the hilly landscape behind. I loved it.

I could imagine myself  living here sitting in that chair in the sunshine...

Eating the delicious Fudge...

Great Britain (2)

And there we went, it was some years ago we had a flight and I was glad we had the kids with us to guide us through Schiphol airfield, that had changed very much,  to the right gate. We went by bus to the aeroplane.

And up the stairs on the way to Leeds.

With the train to Dronfield.

Where we all were staying in this lovely house of the parents of son in law.

Taphophile Tragics # 10

I am browsing my old photos for cemeteries and found this one in "Bourton-on-the-Water" in Great Britain which I visited in 2010. I only remember it was an old village in the Cotswolds where the houses were built with special "Cotswold stone".

We wandered around a bit and found this "St. Lawrence's Parish Church" with a cemetery.  The history of the stone church goes back to 1110 and has changed many times in the following years.
The graves look pretty old to me too, but I am afraid I can't tell you more about it.

This is my tribute to Tapholphile Tragics
