In the Wertheim-parc in Amsterdam you can find this Auschwitz Monument, designed by Jan Wolkers. The monument consists of broken mirrors reflecting the sky and symbolizes that after Auschwitz the sky never is undamaged anymore. The text in the background says "Never Auschwitz anymore".
It is realized in commission of the "Dutch Auschwitz Committee" who organizes a remembrance once a year at the monument.

Thank you for explaining the significance of the broken mirrors. May there never be another Auschwitz. Ever.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLOVE THAT REFLECTION!
Tell reflections that you love them,
Spurn reflections, if you dare.
Keep reflections out of darkness,
Keep them in the sun’s harsh glare!

That is some very unusual monument, in fact : it transparency make it easy to miss what it was build in reference to... But the broken glass of the floor is quite is a strong image, and the analogy to all those broken lives is very obvious... Nice.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat's a monument that not only reflects, but makes the viewer reflect. I could agree more with the message: Nooit Meer Auschwitz!
