Sunday Bridges

I have seen many strange vehicles in the Amsterdam canals but a floating bus I hadn't seen before. This one looks like a normal bus just splashed in the water. I have done this once in the US and found it a rather scary expierence to drive into the water from the road. However that bus was a combination of a bus on a boat and didn't looked like a real bus so much.

This one is different and looks even more scary. I read you can make a tour with this one from the airport Schiphol when you have a long transfer and you don't want to hang around there but want to see the city. So you can drive under the Skinny Bridge with a bus!

Here you see the testdrive/float.

  1. Good heavens! How very very wierd ... it must only be the novelty factor. I can think of no economic reason for a bus to be so converted. Great idea for a post, Marianne.

  7. ow. that is so funny. indeed not a bad idea when you only have a day or so in amsterdam. i guess its expensive, but really smart.
    does look weird...

those amphibian vehicles you have in boston too. its very popular with kids. they were old war-vehicles!! there are still many many around, most used as attractions nowadays. (i first didnt know that, but now that i do i feel its less a waste.. they were made for another purpose and now are still used instead of trashed!)

  12. I never heard of it and am flabbergasted. I can't believe this is happening right here in Amsterdam. Well, I don't live there, but I mean this country. How odd!

  13. I think I'd rather like a ride on one of those.

  14. it looks like it might go faster than the regular canal tours, which is rather a shame. I like the slower moving boats.

  18. ..... yes, I would have gone for this new way to see the city too. I have done something similar in London, but never seen anything like it here in Norway.
