Sunday Bridges

This bridge crossing the river Amstel in Amsterdam, is named the "New Amstelbridge" but is also known as the "Ceintuurbaanbridge" after the street you can see in the back. The bridge dates from 1903, in 1986 it was renovated but still looks the same as the old one. A tramway is also crossing the bridge, look at the wires above. The middle part can be opened to let  boats pass, the wires then go up too in an ingenious way.

Here a birdsview  from internet of the river Amstel which meanders through Amsterdam and has many bridges to cross.

  1. I love those olde stone bridges and the look of this one is very impressive. I like the curved foothold of the bridge and the boat resting on the lower side. I am looking at the aerial photo and there is a lot of water through Amsterdam and so many bridges - This Amstel river is very large. We have a very large river here, which flows through the entire province of New Brunswick - Saint John River. Have a wonderful day.

  2. We both posted bridges today, but they couldn't be different from one another! I like yours very much because it certainly is more ancient in look and appearance. I'm surprised that it opens; doesn't seem possible because of its heavy appearance.

  3. I cannot picture how they can open a brick/stone bridge. You Dutch are clever.

  4. Mooie foto. Bijzonder dat de brug open kan terwijl er een tramlijn overheen gaat.

  7. Great opening shot of the bridge, it really tells a story about what is going on there.

  8. Very belatedly, «Louis» thanks you for this fine contribution to Sunday Bridges.

«Louis» works all weekend each weekend and it is often difficult for him to properly acknowledge those who have contributed to the meme.
