The Night Watch

At the Rembrandt square in Amsterdam, the Dutch painter Rembrandt overlooks 22 bronze figurines depicting his most famous painting "the Night Watch".

A detail of the sculptures.

And here the real painting which was completed in 1642 and is also know as "The Shooting Company of Frans Banning Cocq". Here you can read more about the painting.

Yesterday there was a big event because the painting went back to its original place in the Rijks Museum. Wrapped up in a security and bullit free box, the 4,5 meters wide painting was carried to the museum.
The museum had been closed for 10! years because of renovations and will be opened in about 14 days,

  1. Closed for 10 years?! That must be an amazing restoration. Always wished to travel to Amsterdam to see the Rembrandt paintings, but I just always saw the inside of the airport while changing planes.
