Theater

If you have a good look you can see a sand storm in the background. This is at a former military airfield in Valkenburg where in a hangar a theater is built. Four months ago we had ordered tickets for a theatershow called "Soldaat van Oranje" (Soldier of Orange), which is great succes for two and a half years already. At the coldest day ever in March with a stormy polar wind, the temperature felt like -10 C, we were blown of our feet when we arrived at the theater.

Outside was an old airplane from the Second World War.

And in the hangar is the theater.

Inside the hangar it looks like a real theater and is was warm thank goodness. The show is a kind of total theater with a mix of music and movie. The audience is placed on a moving platform and you turn from scene, to scene, siiting in your chair. It was really great, I had never seen this before.
You can have a look here for a short impression.

The story is about WWII  from a real story told by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema in book and movie about dutch students who worked as Secret Agents during the war. They tried to reach Great Britain over the North Sea with little boats which was very dangerous. In London our Queen Wilhelmina and her government had no information from the Netherlands until  the students reached London.

  2. I did follow your link to the short impression and was most impressed - gee, think I would so enjoy a "moving" theatre seat. How wonderful that something so interesting has been achieved with this otherwise aging hanger. This was great. Thank you so much. I would like to see this myself.

  3. Very interesting theater and the story looks to be a good one...worthy of Hollywood to put it up on the big screen.

  5. One of our theaters here is exactly like yours...a former WW II hanger. Ours isn't as fancy with a rotating floor but I have seen many good productions there.

  7. What a great place to have a theatre. Shame about the weather. It looks an interesting show with the mixed media. It was fun listening to your language.

  8. Interesting concept of turning a hanger into theatre. The only place I have seen moving platform for the audience is Walt Disney World in Florida.
