Naarden Fortress City

During the walk over the ramparts of the fortress city of Naarden, I climbed to the highest point to have a nice overview.

The fortress has six bastions and  double ramparts and canals.

Here you can see a part of the city surrounded by the fortress. Naarden was established in 1350.

Naarden is one of the best preserved fortress cities of Europe and has a unique star shape which you can see at this airview photo from internet.

  6. Ja, bijzonder om te zien. Wij komen zo af en toe in de vesting van Bourtange, ook indrukwekkend. Op de onderste foto is pas te zien hoe volgebouwd het middenstuk hier is!

  7. This is a rather astounding place considering all the earth that had to be moved with the technology at that time. It is a very beautiful area.

  8. A beautiful city. Why was the town fortified? Against who? Was it a success?
