Sunday Bridges

A pedestrians and cyclists bridge in Amsterdam from the NEMO Science Museum in the background to the Public Library.

This modern two part (61 and 73 meters long) is connecting the Oosterdoks quay and the IJ-tunnel pier.
It can be openend to let ships pass. The bridge is called Mr. J.J. van der Velde bridge. He was a City Counsel Member from 1948-1953 who stimulated the expansion plans for this area of the city.

  2. I wonder...does it split in the middle to rise....or lift from one end?

  4. Gee, I am looking at the size of that ship at the other end. Love the bridges that open for water traffic. We do not have any around here, as the bridges we do have allow for traffic, and then the others are really high. Have you ever seen online the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island. We cross it every summer for holiday and it has a neat story. Have a lovely day.

  8. Saucy Kodz,
A few years go we travelled in that part of Canada, but I don't remember the Confederation Bridge anymore, maybe we crossed it anyway.

    Marleen,
Het kortste stuk van de brug gaat omhoog om de schepen te laten passeren.

  9. Super first image Marianne, I like this angle of the bridge, and the design of the library building is fantastic, I too thought it was a ship at first :)
