To get in a boat in an Amsterdam canal is not always easy. These people had to climb over the fence and let themselves go down carefully.
During summer it is always very busy on the water in the canals, everybody has nowadays his own boat and they all look different. The next one came along already to attache it on the fence.
Whole families are making a tour although the weather was not that warm.
See for more Friday Fences here.
Climbing a fence is no problem when you are young like those three.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is great to be able to hop the fence, or gradually slide down into the boat as this last lady did. I am glad I am healthy and spry at 70 years - I could do that quite easily. Now I am wondering about OLDER (90 - 100 he,he) folks, that could not climb the fence - is there a landing of sorts somewhere along the canal that would make it easier for them. Or, is this allowed to have a landing, ramp sort of thing for ?? older, handicap etc. Nice photos and looks like everyone got on that bigger boat. Neat that everyone has different boats of sorts :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenToch gebeuren er volgens mij weinig ongelukken met al die boten en bootjes tegelijk in de grachten, iedereen kijkt vast goed uit.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice pics...nothing like taking a boat ride up the river!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think I would want a boat too if I lived in Amsterdam. So many canals and beautiful scenery!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNot something you would see in the US. Rules, regulations, potential lawsuits. Why last week when I went to the dentist just for a cleaning they had me put on safety goggles. No kidding. New regulation set down by the government. Unbelievable. I wore my glasses instead. Next time I'll probably have to wear a seat belt.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenJa dat is een heel karwei om aan de wal te komen. Vaak is die wal zo hoog en als je korte benen hebt is dat geen makkie.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenyes, climbing over a fence would be awkward and potentially dangerous. makes for great fence photos, though. :) would love to travel those canals!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really like this series of shots. It tells a good story. They don't know that someone is watching and recording their actions.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's interesting to note that none of these people are wearing life jackets. It's also interesting to note that there are no large high powered boats.
I have a fear of water so I do not get into small boats.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNOT how I'd want to get in a boat. :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLovely shots of the activity.
We saw lots of people in Amsterdam having parties on their boats. Once the party is over I imagine it's harder to get OUT of the boat.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWow,what an acrobatic stunts one must perform before boarding a boat! you'r lucky if you're dressed for performing some circus stunts!
But people always have been drawn to the water so they will become inventive enough for staying ahead of the game.
Hugs,
Mariette
Saucy Kodz,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIn the canals are no landings, only for tourboats. It is protected heritage.

You made me laugh about the glasses, I can see you with a lifebelt in the chair indeed!

We live below the sealevel, so we are used to water. Every child learns swimming at a very early age here. And you can't protect every move you make, life is a challenge full or riscs to handle.
Wonderful to be so young and agile!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh no Marianne, you won't find me climbing into a boat any time soon haha! Which is a shame it looks like a lot of fun..
