Amsterdam is sometimes called the Venice of the North, because of the many canals there are. It seems Venice is coming to Amsterdam now. Only the weather is not so warm as in Venice I suppose.
The gondolier was a woman and it was hard work for her to keep it going on her own.
And then there are the low bridges to pass!
If I were a gondolier I would have fallen into the water many times. I just don't have the balance needed for the job
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOops! I hope those gondoliers don't end up hitting their heads on the low bridges.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAha, a woman gondolier - we are slowly taking over the world. he,he
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat photos and good grips on her boots. Balancing and rowing is indeed an art to be learned :)
Oh my, I bet that it's a lot harder than it looks!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWonderful post about a subject I know nothing about.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt seems there is always more to see in Amsterdam!

And check out that crazy method of propulsion!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI always wondered when the gondola boats would appear in other places. The technology has been refined for years. why not use it somewhere else?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWaarom inderdaad niet ook in Amsterdam? Maar wel met een zonnetje erbij..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThose low bridges are going to create a problem or two for a gondolier.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVragen ze hier ook 90 euro per half uur?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGroetjes,
Filip
I am thinking that is extremely hard work!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenhaha, that looks odd.... and the low bridges are scary in this case!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHow lovely some sun rays would be indeed!
Enjoy your new week and thanks for always interesting views!
Hugs,
Mariette
To be more like Venice, they need a standard uniform like the Venetians hats and striped shirts. It does indeed look like difficult manuevering.
