Bus seat

The Metro in Amsterdam had closed a traject for six weeks this summer due to maintenance work. Many busses were deployed to convey the passengers but were rather overcrowded. We were lucky to find a seat in front of the bus because while standing is rather nasty when the bus is speeding through the traffic.
I watched the seat in front of me which had a funny patern I had never seen before and was different then the others. When I had a better look suddenly I understood why these seats were different, a pregnant woman, a person with a stick and a woman with a child....oops! Fortunately nobody of these persons came along, so we could stay there during the ride.

And here is the busdriver.

  3. That is a colorful shot...and a nice reminder to use your manners for folks that might even have more trouble than you standing.

  4. I only noticed the color at first until you mentioned the pregnant woman, etc. It is very clever.

  5. M, I love the perspective and colors here and know the feeling of taking a photo on public transportation... bravo!

I do hope that the riders understand the significance of these special seats. What a clever design.

  6. That's a really good way of defining who these seats are designed for Marianne.
I know what you mean about standing on a speeding bus..tricky!

  7. I think the seat could be a wee bit bigger especially for a woman in her 8th or 9th month of pregnancy.

  8. I wonder how many people would miss a message like that. It's too oblique.

  9. Dearest Marianne,
And that all in a Mercedes Benz bus; what luxury!
In a way it is sad that with symbols on the upholstery they now want to convey the message that one ought to yield this (or any) seat to women that are pregnant or with a child or handicapped elderly...
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette
