Friday Fences

This fence is in front of the "National Institute of War Documentation"  (NIOD) at the Herengracht in Amsterdam.

Not many canalhouses have such a heavy iron fence in front of their office, don't know why this one is so defensive. But is it is always handy to put your bike against.

  1. This is way beyond just a mere simple fence. It's very eye catching. This is one fence I would not want to climb over.

  2. WOW - what a fence - and in such good shape too - I think its defensive enough to discourage someone from climbing over - I think I might just rest my bicycle against it though.

  6. The spikey things on top could cause some serious hurt. Do like the touch of gold.

  7. We both feature ornate fences today. I like both yours and mine. . . quite elaborate.

  8. Dearest Marianne,
Well, not every canal house owner will be able to afford the huge sum of money such a cast iron fencing will cost! Not only that, the maintenance for keeping it meticulously painted in black and gold is another big chunk of a person's budget! Wish we had one like that... In Indonesia we saw many but of course, labor overthere is a fraction of the total cost.
    Wishing you a happy weekend!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. The fence and door are very ornate. They are also very sturdy and would keep out the bad guys.

  10. Mooi die sierlijkheid. Een stukje ouderwets ambacht.
