On the highway

It was a foggy day yesterday and driving on the highway I spotted this typical dutch windmill with the modern version of two wind turbines next to it.

On this road you pass the airport Schiphol where I am always sitting with my camera at hand to spot a landing or rising aeroplane crossing the highway very close. But I think because of the fog there were no planes in the air at all, so only this parked one.

  1. The older windmills are much more pleasing to the eyes.

  2. You have such a fantastic eye for the unexpected photo opportunity. I like the way the road signs add another dimension to the image.

    Happy Monday!

  3. The past meets the future! Good catch.

We always flew KLM when we lived in The Netherlands? Great airline!.....Janey

  4. The newer turbines are rather dull, when you get to see the olde "dutch" style windmill. The turbines are popping up all over the place here on our side of the province, especially in Prince Edward Island - there's fields and fields of them - I should have a smaller one in my back yard and save on my power bill. haha

  7. So photos in the fog gives a different perspective. You've chosen things in the air which emphasizes the fog.

  12. Dearest Willy,
Quite a sight those windmills, modern and ancient alongside the Interstate.
Airplanes do land in the fog; only using their instruments but for a lay person it is quite scary. Often when we did land around 6:00 o'clock in the morning it was quite foggy. Even the moisture from the meadows creates a layer of fog. But we always landed fine; it is a skill that those pilots and co-pilots are trained for and they can rely on their instruments. The very same for descending, through the clouds you see for minutes nothing and wonder where we're going... they solely can depend on the instruments.
Take off is less scary as soon you are above the clouds and have clear vision and the speed is higher. Landing is going slow... and you stay in that cloud level for quite a while, especially in The Netherlands where the clouds are really low.
But as for autumn weather related photographs; this is SO PURE DUTCH!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

PS Here in the US we call 'autobaan' Interstate and all other roads with less maximum speed are Highways... and of course local roads. Don't know for England what they call it.

    1. Oh my; sorry Marianne I confused you with Willy from De Tante van Tjorven. I was tired around mid night we had quite a day...

  13. I much prefer the picturesque old windmills to the sleek, modern turbines. In the US, the turbines have a terrible reputation for killing birds. In the Midwest, the blades sometimes freeze and become immobile during the winter months.

  15. The plane is a DC10. «Louis» always enjoyed flying on those planes.

As others wrote, «Louis», too, prefers the older windmills.
