In Weesp I saw a spectacular piece of art which is called "Arbor of pigeons" and made by artist "Marte Roling" (1939). She made it in 2005 to celebrate the 650-years of existence of the city of Weesp.
The golden pigeons reflected beautiful in the sunlight.
In May 2006 is was officially revealed by the mayor of Weesp.
In 2007 one of the lower pigeons was stolen, can you imagine! The artist made a new one.
The artist must be a pigeon lover. It's very eye catching art.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell, someone wanted one of those beautiful pigeons to roost in their house - different arbor though and most reflective in the golden sun.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAn interesting and unusual choice of subjects to celebrate a city!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMy first thought upon seeing this - those pigeons are likely to disappear.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAwesome sculpture! I can believe someone would steal a pigeon. We have a band director statue and they steal his baton.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenArt has always been stolen a good thing for the artist but not so good for-r the owner
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat an unusual sculpture. I just love it. The steeple, the golden pigeons and the sky make for the perfect trio.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo glad that you did explore Weesp as it seems to be full of treasures. This Pigeon arbor is fabulous; true work of art!
Hugs,
Mariette
i still dont know what i think of this piece of art.... i think the location is not the best, and it could look better someplace else...
BeantwoordenVerwijderendid you also visit the fortress? (fort ossemarkt)
Looove it Marianne.. an added attraction.. no pigeon poop :) We've had art stolen here in Perth also, so bad!
