Amsterdam Light Festival (1)

Amsterdam has a a Light Festival with a walking route that takes you past several light artworks. This one is called "Drawn in light" by artist Ralf Westerhof. The installation rotates above the Amstel River and shows a typical Amsterdam streetview.

This installation in front of the City Hall is a result of a collaborative project between the "New Heroes Foundation" from the city's residents. They collected light bulbs from Amsterdam residents and created an installation in which the light bulbs form the statement "We light Amsterdam" . You can only see these words from above when you go up a special stair in the nearby Music Hall, which we didn't know. So maybe we come back another time to watch it.

This is the lighted famous "Skinny Bridge" with a Big Tree by Jacques Rival and made of colored branches of LED lights, commemorating the many branches of the Amsterdam canal system.

  3. All those lamps are brilliant. I am thinking of all the extension cords and light sockets needed for that display.

  5. I'm amazed at what you show in the first photo. For the lamps It's surprising what can be done with hundreds of tacky old lamps. Holland certainly knows how to dress itself up and you show us great photos of it.

  8. Dearest Marianne,
The top and bottom photo are lovely, especially the one above the Amstel River.
That old collection of table lamps I find a bit far fetched and it could cause lots of problems when it starts raining... Not so very safe in my opinion!
I wonder where those table lamps will go next? Do they end up being dumped into the environment?
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette
