Nice fence

A fence with a funny addition. Maybe the older ones of you recognize the golden crown pen we used as a child when we learned handwriting in school. We had to dip it in the inkpot and write our characters in a school notebook with lined paper. This pen was specially used for learning slanted handwriting.

  1. It's a unusual to see pen nibs on a fence. Different countries but I had the same learning experience as you.

  2. I wonder if learning to write that way was as painful as the fence if you tried to scale it. :-)

As I recall, as a student, we were entrusted with nothing more than a #2 pencil. Yet I still managed to impale my hand even on one of those . . . You gotta love teachers!

  3. Ouch - to pierce oneself on the top of that fence. Yes, actually, I receive such a pen for Christmas, thinking it would be fun to WRITE a letter like I used to, instead of typing rapidly on computer all the time or texting. I would like to just WRITE an olde fashioned letter. Lovely photo of this extremely different fence. Cheers

  4. Writing letters is becoming a lost art, sadly! The top bar on this fence looks pretty wicked.

  5. Ziet er mooi maar ook gevaarlijk uit.

  6. The fence screams out "Stay Out!". I would never had seen the pen nibs in the decoration had you not said so. As Revrunner pointed out, it was a #2 pencil for us also.

  7. I had to take a second look to see the pen nib. We had the same thing here.
Now the fence? That's a mean fence with the blades on top.

  8. Dearest Marianne,
Oh yes, I remember very well how we all got drilled to write neatly, slanted words on the lines and not messing up! But it taught you in fact a lot about character building as one can almost entirely analyze a person by his or her handwriting. Sadly it no longer is being taught that way... A lost art and therefore a diminished character part.
That fence looks like warding off the worst possible intruders!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. I like the color! I bet it is quite successful in keeping out intruders.

  10. I do indeed remember those nibs for the pens. Are all iron railings that vicious near you?
