Pas de Deux

On my walking tour during the Light Festival in Amsterdam I passed this dancing couple on a bridge who were slowly turning around. It was such a romantic view in the dark, I had never seen this before. There was a little windmill on the other edge of the bridge but I didn't make a photo of it, which was a mistake of me. I did some research and found that "Pas de Deux" is an art installation with a dancing couple that is driven by the wind ( the windmill!) and was designed by architect and artist Laurent Wolf.

Once the windmill starts to rotate by the wind, the two figures on the turntable rotate with it. Rotating about a common axis they create their own world, isolated in their own time and space. It is part of a project called "Love in the City" and to be seen on the Hortusbridge until January 5th.

Here you see the complete installation, with the windmill.

  4. This would be wonderful to see. Thank you for explaining the mechanics behind it. Whenever I see the words "pas de deux" I think of that beautiful piece from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
