A bit fresh air

At New Years day the weather was fine, high temperatures 9 degrees C ( 48.2 F) with a bit sun so I went out to feel the fresh wind around my head at the dike. The night before had been short due to the crazy fireworks in our neighbourhood that went on until 3 o'clock in the morning.

This is what kept us awake during the night.

Every inhabitant of the Netherlands can buy his own fireworks a few days before New Years Eve.There are some rules for instance it is not allowed to use it before New Years Eve. Well don't tell a dutchman what not to do, rules are made to break. So the noise starts immediately and goes on until all the fireworks have gone in the air. The Dutch have spent 67 million euros! to their fireworks this year, well not me I am not a big fan.

  1. I wonder who cleans up the mess. I am amazed that you can buy your own fireworks and as many as you want. You can buy small packages here, but most expensive and not to go off in a residential area or woods- they mostly have to go off down by the wharf. I'll bet its a pretty site, regardless of the noise, but till 3 in the a.m. would upset me. Looks really windy in your first photo - "blowin' a gale" as we say here :)

  2. Love4 your new "do!" People throughout history have had a fascination for fireworks and will use any excuse to have "fun" with them.

  3. I heard New Year's Eve revelers setting off fireworks near where I live, also. I just hope they cleaned up after themselves. Wow! What a mess.

  5. Good grief! They don't clean up their mess? And I thought it was just us Americans who were pigs. I am with you. I can think of better things to burn my money on than fireworks.

  8. Hopenlijk hebben ze er net zoveel plezier van gehad als dat er rotzooi ligt..
Maar ja, het is maar eens per jaar.

  9. Dearest Marianne,
That tells a lot of those that waste their money on fireworks. Such a mess and the taxpayers; all of US (yes, we too) have to pay the civil workers to clean it up!
Far better to let the wind blow through your hair for getting kind of fit from a sleepless night due to those that don't respect others!
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette

  10. the entire day it was crazy in our neighborhood. some bangs were so loud! like bombs!!! so i was reall scared too, that it would go really even more crazy after midnight, but it was actually ok (the weather was also shitty); after midnight our neighbours were more trouble than the fireworks!!
but i very much dislike that people leave all this stuff on the street... beehhh

  11. Haha! Talk about windblown Marianne :) In Australia it's against the law to set off private fireworks.
