The longest canal

Inn the courtyard of the Amsterdam Museum I saw this 400-metre long drawing of a canal that was created by 1500 children of Amsterdam.

In 2013, the Amsterdam canals celebrated their 400th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the project "The longest canal" was developed, a cultural-historical, educational and fun programme for children aged six and up and their parents.

The drawings were then photographed, mounted and printed on vinyl.

It was so fun to watch the drawings with all the details. This must have been Crownsday of our new King as I see all the flags and the little girl on a bike with a crown on her head.

The famous "Skinny Bridge".

Aparently it can be spooky sometimes along the canals.
I dedicate this post to Monday Murals.
And hubby sccollections blog has some other photos.

  1. It's a wonderful way to celebrate. Children's art is always so imaginative; what a pleasure it must have been for the children who were involved and their families to see the work on public display. Terrific idea!

  7. Nothing compares to the art of a child. This is really neat. I'd love to see it. Thank you for explaining that each painting was photographed as I was wondering how so many kids to work together on one piece.

  8. Dearest Marianne,
Such initiatives are always great when they involve the action of the children. That raises awareness of this historical milestone of 400 years canals.
    Hugs,
