A seat in the shape of a leaf with the text : "Kings lime tree Willem-Alexander 2013".
The lime tree was planted in honor of the throne change of our new King Willem Alexander in 2013. This custom to plant a tree with the arrival of a new King of Queen dates from 1898 when princess Wilhelmina became Queen. This was repeated for princess Juliana in 1948 and princess Beatrix in 1980. So you can find those trees in many places in the Netherlands always with a sign for which head of State is was planted.

Very unusual seat, however; pretty cool and I like this custom.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBetter than stone monuments.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a lovely idea, and the bench is so unusual. Very inviting for a sit-down.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBeautiful and creative idea, I like it !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThose benches are so unique!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a fantastic bench!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe same ceremony happens here. some of our trees are more hidden away and few people know about the. Your tree is in a very public area.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love those benches, and the idea of planting a tree in honor of the monarch.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPlanting a commemorative tree is an excellent tradition. The benches are very well designed.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat is a nice idea. I am surprised that a lime tree would survive the cold there.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHier is ook een koningslinde geplant, maar zonder die superleuke bankjes!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFantastic bench, love the leaves. Tom The Backroads Traveller
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI had no idea about that tradition, but I like it. And the benches appeal to me.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat custom and a lovely circular bench with stylized leaves! What are those other two trees being planted for previous coronations?
Hugs,
Mariette
No I don't think so, it is always a "lindeboom".with a little gate around.
VerwijderenLove the shape of the leaves.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe surrounding benches are so clever.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell they are just delightful Marianne and yes, the tree planting tradition is a wonderful idea.
