Almere has this weekend a sculpture festival where various artists make some art pieces from wood, ice, sand and marl. Here a woodcarver in action.
This one is made of marl, a calcium carbonate or lime-rich mudstone which contains variable amounts of clay and silt.
Children could also try to make something with the marl.
A sand sculpture in progress.
And here the ice sculptures. It happened to be the hottest October 18th ever in our country 24 C degrees! (75.2 F), so the ice was melting very quickly.
I would hate to think of what might result from handing me a large block of wood and a chainsaw.

These people have skills that I can only dream of.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have seen this in our small town and it amazes me what people can create with a chainsaw and all those tools. Pretty cool sculptures.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery talented artist. I am happy the wood craver is in protective gear. I can only imagine a sliver of wood in the eye!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLots of variety! We have wood carving at the State Fair in August plus many people have them carved in their yards when trees are cut down. I probably should photograph and post some of them. In winter we have a winter carnival and the sculptures are in no danger of melting!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWat leuk om al die verschillende materialen bij elkaar te zien.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat would be neat to see. I don't know if I have seen marl before. Looks like a good medium to work with. It'd last longer than ice or sand, that's for sure.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWorking with these materials artists tend to really get into it and it's surprising what results. The chain saw is the one that fascinates me.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVerfijning met een kettingzaag, een onmogelijke opdracht.

Fascinating! It's interesting to see the first guy attacking this gentle subject with a chain saw....

Mooi evenement. Leuk dat het ook verschillende materialen zijn.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am always amazed how they can carve such beautiful wooden sculptures with those industrial sized saws.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat is beautiful work! Having had seen ice carvers at work at close hand, I know it's a real craft.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a fab event Marianne, and all three mediums, that would have been so much fun to watch.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a fun activity to go to!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have seen an ice sculpture, but did not get to see it getting created.
Looks like you guys know how to have a good time :)
Peace :)
My favorite is the sand sculpture representing wood. Well done!
