Some more Amsterdam canals

As you all liked yesterday's picture of Amsterdam so much, (thanks for the many comments!), I give you some more. Here the common canal boats with glass tops for a better view, for a touristic tour over the water.

The old canal houses which sometimes sink a little to one side in the soft underground.

Some of the typical facades with the authentic clock gable and the step-gable.

Have a look at the narrow  streets of the canals which are not made for modern trafic as these trucks which have to deliver some building material. There have been endless discussions over the years to close the old innercity for trafic but Amsterdam has always had difficulties with making decisions. To many anti opinions so nothing changes.

  1. A very good reason NOT to have a rolling desk chair in your study. :-)

  2. Oh, Marianne! Your photos make me really, really want to visit your city! I have always fantasized about living on a barge on the Seine, but I would love to vacation on a boat on one of your canals, too!

  9. Dearest Marianne,
Well, that is not unique for Amsterdam alone. All medieval cities in Europe have very narrow inner-city streets. So any delivery, or pick up by ambulance, fire truck, will be a problem. With or without too many votes against changes; it is nearly impossible to solve this!
Looks romantic and beautiful but it is not practical for modern living.
    Hugs and happy weekend.

  11. That one building has really sunken! Here in the states it would probably be condemned and torn down....no appreciate for the ambiance. Love the boats on the canal.
