DWDD Pop-Up Museum

In the Netherlands we have a popular daily television talk show "The World Keeps Turning" hosted by Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Every day he has a regular co-host, a so called "table gentleman or lady" and together they talk with guests about everything that matters at that moment. Matthijs is an enthousiastic person full of ideas and one moment the idea came up to have the "table people" make an exhibition of forgotten art from the depots of our Museums. Each of them travelled into the country to different museums to choose something they liked and an pop-up exhibition of their choices has been realized in the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam for four months.

These are the ten "table people" with Matthijs in the center.

The exhibition opening was last weekend and is from day one a great succes. Each of the ten has their own room equipped with their choices. Many pensionados with free time as we,  had come to have a visit and it was really worth it. This was the room of Joost Zwagerman.

What I really liked was the room of Cecile Narinx, editor of "Harpers Bazaar" magazine with a forgotten Dutch fashiontrend  GILL from 1988-1992.

Loved the boot.

There were so many different pieces to see as these wooden saints chosen by Herman Pleij.

Old books with paintings of birds chosen by Pieter van Vollenhoven and Nico de Haan.

Photography chosen by Fidan Ekiz.

And modern art chosen by Jan Mulder. Watch the little mouse along the frame of the painting!
It has become a long post but I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

  14. What a great idea for an exhibition. There must be so many items in the back rooms of museums that are never seen. The fashion room looks really interesting.

  18. Dearest Marianne,
Wow, that was quite a diverse collection by those ten people. The last one with the cat artwork, framed by a mice is genial and humorous at once!

  21. Wouldn't you just love to have the opportunity to do this. Wish I could see it. In the past my kids have made small museums on a bedroom shelf. Stuff they have collected.
