Spring sunshine (or not)

With every day sunshine at the moment Amsterdam looks wonderful for making photos.

Because of the bright sunshine I noticed now details at the facades of the old canal houses which I hadn't seen before or were hidden behind the leaves of the trees in summer.

Look at the two dolphines on top and the gable of a fisherman.

We had a total solar eclips in North-West Europe yesterday. Everybody was excited to watch it in the morning with special glasses, but when you need the sun there is no sun! It was a cloudy day without sunshine here and we were all very disappointed not to see anything of eclips. Some people saw for 8 seconds the clouds moving away and had a photo of a little sickle shape. The only thing we noticed was a bit darker day light but that looked like it was going to rain, which we expierence here very often.

  2. too bad about the eclipse - we watched one two years ago down at the wharf. So neat to be able to see this. I love spring, although it hasn't reached here yet. I do feel the warmth of the sun as we shovel more snow. I heard in Halifax all downtown stores had to be closed because of the weight of snow and ice on their roofs. I had the snow and ice removed by two big men off my roof, cause it got to be a danger. Collapse is not a nice thing. I love your photos and hope to walk here one day. You Marianne, live a magical kingdom indeed. lol

  3. Sorry about the eclipse disappointment. I could just walk around Amsterdam all day looking at rooftops, and probably get run over by a bicycle!

  5. Sounds like the eclipse was, well, eclipsed. :-) It's happened here, too, lately when special astronomical events have been blotted out by clouds. Oh well.

  6. Marianne, we had cloud cover also all day yesterday, so no eclipse for us either. Love your pictures of Amsterdam, and we have found that sometimes our pictures turn out better when it is cloudy or raining.

  7. A shame about the eclipse show in your area. I was fortunate once to catch one here in the high plains of north eastern California. People said totality was a strange feeling to be experienced. I have to admit it was indeed.

  12. No eclipse seen in London either but sunnier days ahead I hope. The adornments on the buildings are wonderful and I'm sure most people never look up to see them.
