A sign along the highway to warn you for approaching a movable bridge in the road in 300 meters. The red light begins to flash and the barriers fall automatically. The weather vane warns the road users for strong winds when passing the bridge. You can see the same smaller sign at the right for cyclists who have their own road.
See here the road in the air with the cycling path at the right.

Sometimes we need all of the warnings we can get. Driving a vehicle is one of them.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThere were three bridges like that over the Fox River in Green Bay, Wi where I grew up. they divided the town and were a huge pain when ships navigated through the river.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLeuk om ook hier eens even bij stil te staan.. En zo te zien waaide het stevig!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFirst off you need to fix your link. Even I understood this one. Tom The Backroads Traveller
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI can't recall any bridges like that here. There's a bridge that raises one section in the city, but not at an angle. I think the same applies to a larger bridge around the Niagara area in southern Ontario.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGood to see signs like this that we can understand.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe have a footbridge like this in Auckland, that opens up to allows tall boats to go under.
Hope you are enjoying the week

Love the eye-popping clarity and color in that first shot.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYikes! That is an amazing site. We used to have a bridge like this in a city near me when I was a child, and we always hoped the bridge would be up when we came to it.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell, drivers need to be warned in time; before the bridge gets drawn up! The cycling lane looks rather roomy when up in the air... That must be used for both ways?
Great photo; it explains a lot.
Hugs,
Mariette
I was amazed the first time I saw all of the bike lanes in The Netherlands!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSuper composition in both these shots Marianne but the first is really fab!
