The shop on the corner of the Third Weteringdwarssstreet in Amsterdam is part of the so-called weaver houses, built in 1670 as housing for French weavers and wool workers. The corner houses were intended as a shop or pub. A part of these weaver homes has subsided in the construction of the new metro. Since 1949 a famous butcher was housed here named "Rodrigues", who made excellent french pate's. In 1994 the shop was closed, as a result of ( as it turned out later) misinterpretation of the new European rules by the Inspection Department. When the error was fixed, Rodrigues didn't want to start all over again.
Here you can see the damage by the subsidence to the other weaver houses at the left on the photo above. The residents had to leave their houses for years and it will also take years to restore them.

Although it will take years and no doubt cost a great deal of money, I am glad they are restoring these houses of historical significance.
