Memory lane

When visiting ArtZuid in Amsterdam I couldn't resist to have a look at the place were I have lived in that same neighborhood. At the right part on the second floor I lived with my parents and my brother and sister from  my sixth to my twenty two age. I was surprised to see all that green on the facade, we didn't have that at those times. Also the plants on the ground are new to me.

We had a canal along the street and this was the view from our home to the other site.

It was a quiet place without traffic and parked cars and we always played ball games with other children on the street. That parking lot with trees at the left didn't excist in those times.

In cold winters the water became an excellent icerink in front of our house.

As here with my big sister and brother in 1956.

  1. How wonderful to revisit our old homes and remember all the good memories.
I like the plants growing on the building's walls. How much fun it would be to skate in the frozen canal!

  2. How wonderful to see your olde home and see the changes also. I love that last photo. My Dad always had a skating rink in our back yard and all the neighbourhood kids would come skate there. He prepared the ice every night so we always had good ice and on weekends parents and children all played hockey with sandwiches and hot chocolate on the side bench. Ah, Marianne, its always fun to remember, eh. What a beautiful area you grew up in.

  7. Lovely memories. It is always nice to return the place where has lived at child.
In the old days :) there were hardly any plants like today. I have a similar memory, although the yard where we played as a child, is now a parking lot.
You had a wonderful place to live.

  11. Dearest Marianne,
What a lovely memory lane post. You grew up in a very nice and green area. Why do they let the windows get covered by all that green?
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  12. The building must have contained a good number of apartments. Loved the photo of you and your siblings. Even more fun to revisit the place of one's childhood, and it appears to have been a great place to live.
