Sail Amsterdam 2015

Every five years a big ship event takes place in Amsterdam. Fifty so called tallships were yesterday entering the city on the river IJ,  which was a magnificent view. We didn't see all the fifty because they passed very slowly towed by a tugboat.

The "City of Amsterdam" was at the head of  the parade.

Followed by many others and surrounded by many people in their own little boats to welcome them.

We were not the only ones, along the river many people had come with folding chairs and cameras.

Even dogs enjoyed the parade.

Some sailors were standing high up on the sails.

And these sailors balanced on the ropes to unfold the sails down.

  1. Indrukwekkend!
Ik heb niet echt hoogtevrees, maar als ik die matrozen daar bovenin zie krijg ik toch de kriebels.

  2. What a fun event! I love the boats and that cute dog. We have a similar event here in Maryland and our ship the Pride of Baltimore has been around the world during these events. Great post!

  11. Lovely photos of wonderful happening. This is "it has to see, if possible" -happening. They were 2 (or 3) years ago in Finland, but I don't remember if they were so many, 50 ships. The ship in last 2 images was very popular.
