Nostalgic

After yesterday's post I got a bit nostalgic and looked for some photos of our "pioneer" time in our new residence Almere This was our house under construction in 1979.

In November 1979 we moved  from Amsterdam to Almere and this is how our surroundings looked liked when we started living here. I remember we always had to wear boots to walk through sand and mud as there was no paving yet.

But the best part was that we got a very cold winter with frozen waters everywhere and had our own icerinks around the house. The kids had not skated before but learned very quickly, unlike me, I have never been a good skater and don't dare it anymore.

  1. I enjoy seeing old photos. Gosh I was living in Wassenaar at that time! Nice for the kiddos that they could skate so close to home, but bet you don't miss the mud,

  3. I thought that you live Amserdam. Is Almere far away?
Nice old pictures. The landscape has probably changed a lot since then... There is at least no longer muddy roads :D

  10. Dearest Marianne,
That is a great flash back in time. What a way of handling life, having to wear boots with the entire family. But you made it and such photos are there to tell the story! No, I have never mastered the skating, tried it several times but also gave up on it.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  11. I never mastered skating either, but kids are good at this type of thing. The ice must have been fun but not all that mud!

  12. Almere sure has changed a lot in time. A brave move you two made but then we all did things like that back when we were young and foolhardy.

  13. Don`t you worry about skating or not.... Here in Norway some people like to say that we are born with skis on our feet. Not me :)
I like your b/w images. It looks like the place my friends up in Paterswolde have got. Looks nice.
    Happy weekend!

  14. I love looking back at old photos. My Dad used to make an ice rink in the back yard and we would skate and play hockey games with family and friends. On weekends, the neighbours and their children would come for a hockey game with everyone playing followed with treats and hot chocolate. I still skate today and love it.
