Sunshine after all the rain we had in Amsterdam gives some shadows as well. This is near the Oosterpark on the right. The tower once belonged to the protestant Muider church built in 1892 but partly burned down in 1989 in a heavy fire, but the striking tower was spared. I witnessed the fire at that time as I was by chance walking with my old mother-in-law in the street there. The current Muider church is rebuilt against the old tower but is part of a building complex and has not the characteristic exterior you would expect from a church. The old tower is being restored.

A picture of the fire in October 31 1989 I found on the internet.
Sad to see an historic building going up in flames.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is a miracle that the old tower survived and did not have to be torn down. I keep looking at the fireman up on that high ladder cringing with fear. The picture you got after the rain is gorgeous...but all of your pictures are stunning and beautiful. The trees against the blue and white above is lovely.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAt least the tower was spared. Enjoy your sunny weekend Marianne.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe winter shadows are coming ;-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAlthough it wasn't a nice thing, that is a nice effect of the smoke swirling out and around the tower.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAls je weer op die plek bent denk je er altijd weer even aan.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is sad to see a structure like that on fire.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo sad that it burned but wonderful they were able to save the tower anyway. We are having lovely sunshine, too.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBrave man on the end of that ladder.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's too bad treasures like this sometimes meet disaster.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'll bet it was nice to see the sun. Sad about the fire.
