A Pier

Earlier this year Almere opened in the Weerwater a 100 meter long pier, a wooden runway made of parallel strips with up and down waves. At the end is wooden wave of 3 meters high which is also a viewpoint. The pier  can be used for docking boats as part of  the nearby Safety Museum as for instance police or fire boats,  but it can also be seen as a self-contained piece of art.

I must admit it is a bit weird construction, to climb the wave was rather steep and didn't gave a much different view than below. The only ones enyoing the pier were the gulls and they left a lot of faeces there.

  1. Interesting construction and a very long pier. The gulls make a mess wherever they are!
Maybe the climb is just for people to exercise.

  3. The surface must discourage the skateboarders.

  4. Very long pier and very nice photos. I guess gulls always make it a nice landing strip :)

  5. If that gate wasn't there one could ride their bicycle real fast and launch themselves off into the water on a hot summer day.

  7. Yes, gulls seem to be able to take advantage of many things that we make. I'm surprised that no body is on the pier.

  8. I really like to look of this construction. But I always like something a little different! I even like the seagulls, (swawk! swawk!) but I don't like the mess.

  11. This is a very strange construct .. I don't understand it.
By the way, I have not noticed before the translation. (You have put it here, it's new?) I have longed for it and I have thought to ask for it.Thanks.

    1. Old age is doing tricks… heh. Now I remember you have had all the time the translation, I just saw it with a new eye.. :)

  12. It's unusual and I think it would be a bit disconcerting to walk over the waves as you made your way down the pier. I would feel a bit wobbly!

  13. Sea gulls will do that! It is a very unusual looking pier. I love the way the light is shining on the water in your first picture.

  14. Nice pier. I guess the wave at the end is for people to exit from a high deck on a ship.

  15. I like the way you've captured the pier for us Marianne, perfect perspective of this unusual 'piece of art'.
