Had to do some shopping in Almere City last saturday but got stuck in the middle of a crowd of people with children wating for the arrival of Sinterklaas our equivalent for Santa Claus.
Luckily I had my camera with me and could make some photos of the cute little ones sitting on the necks of their fathers.
All wearing a Pete hat.
There was a musicband in front of the parade.
Sinterklaas was not riding a white horse this time but was pulled by a touristic train packed with enthousiastic black Pete's.
And there he was, Saint Nicholas the Bishop from Mira in Spain, or Sinterklaas, as we call him, sitting in a comfortable chair.
You can read more about our Sinterklaas history and celebrations "here".

Wonderful photos. Never heard of him called Sinterklaas before. Personally I prefer it over Santa Clause.

I love these lovely photos.
Very cute. In Perth the Christmas season in the city centre was officially opened last Friday with Santa Claus arriving in a sled. Sadly I didn't go and watch it...

Europeans sure know how to put on a parade, This must be so exciting for children.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo glad it was a day without rain for this very special Sinterklaas welcome. For children it is such a great excitement and I still can remember from my kindergarden years; when we really believed!
It is a very colorful and fun festivity and it belongs to the Dutch culture as such, including Black Pete! Yes, the Dutch did bring us Santa, Presents and Treats and as I wrote about it last year you can see here: {How the Dutch Brought Us Santa, Presents, and Treats}
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful children. I remember your customs at Christmas. So interesting.
