Tiled tunnel

Last week a magnificent decorated tunnel was opened in Amsterdam at the Central Station. The tunnel is meant for pedestrians and cyclists and is 3 meters high, 110 meters  long and 10 meters wide.

The footpath, the sides amd the ceiling are covered with ceramic tiles,  an artwork by artist Irma Boom. It is made with ceramics factory Royal Tichelaar who produced 77730 hand painted tiles.
The creation starts with a seascape by Cornelis Boumeester from 1700.

The ship ends beautiful in the ceiling.

Watch the wild sea with the other boats it looks like the waves are flooding into the tunnel.

A fishing boat.

It was a rather dark rainy day so the light in the tunnel was a bit poor but I hope you enjoyed the beauty as much as I did. Linking to "Monday Mural"

  1. The mural is wonderful. I saw a post last week by s.c. that told about the opening of the tunnel. How amazing that this mural is made of tiles.

  2. Lovely mural Marianne. The waves seem quite real! This could be in Portugal, the same style and colour used in the tiles there.
