Nursery School

I am scanning some old photos and continue with my school photos. This one is from Nursery school in 1952. I count 32 children not that much as in Primary school. I am the one in the front with the white blouse and the bow in her hair, looking a bit serious. I must have been 5 years old and had that bow in my hair for years in various colours, my mother liked that, I was not the only one I can see. It is nice to watch the classroom and us all sitting decently to tables with different things to play with.
Some of you mentioned yesterday we were so well dressed. The reason is that it was always announced to the parents when the school photographer was coming so all the mothers had their child dressed on their best that day.

  3. I so enjoy these. In my second grade school picture....I have on my mother's pearl necklace which looked ridicules . Years later I questioned my Mother as to why she let me wear such a thing. Her response " because you thought you looked so pretty".

  8. I'll bet this brought back many memories. 32 is still a high enrolment for pre school.

  10. Ja, als de schoolfotograaf kwam was dat best een officieel moment. Kan ik me ook nog herinneren.
    Mooie foto.

  13. Dearest Marianne,
Lovely photo and yes, we all did sit neatly at our school-desks, we had to sit upright too.
Our classes were also quite large at the time I went to kindergarden in 1956.
Those hair bows must have been trendy for years and I remember Mom ironing it around the pipe from the stove (kachel pijp).
Glad you are scanning and digitalizing such precious pictures.
I too need to continue doing that with all the old photos. My aim is to trash all albums and only digital...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  14. I love looking at old school pictures. Surprisingly they look very similar to some of my own. I am also a "baby boomer", but just a few years behind you!

  15. Great stuff, b! Not as serious as that fellow directly behind you. :-)

  16. I have photos of myself at that age with the same large bows in my hair! A fashion on both sides of the Atlantic, apparently. I am enjoying your memories very much.

  17. You were a cutie. Nursery schools look different today. 32 is a big number of little children to teach.

  18. As a former teacher who normally had 18 students in my classes, I am horrified at the numbers here.

  19. This is a great picture to have. My Mother did the same thing on the day the photographer came to take photos....dress up in our finest.

  20. I am so far behind. Have been out of town so am catching up today. This photo is adorable. I used to wear bow ribbons on my pigtails everyday, and I STILL love my ribbons at 77. There is a sentimental feel of this photo that really pulls at the heartstrings. So glad you still have it, and it is in such fine condition.
