Checkmate

It always fascinates me that people have the patience to play a chess game in a crowded city as Amsterdam.

The game was between the man with the hat at the left and the one at the right with the blue shirt. I just missed the rapid move he made and after that it took to much time for me to wait for the next move. It is mostly an eldery men's game, have never seen a woman playing here.

  1. Interesting find. It is a wonderful game regardless of the board size.

  2. I think you need to start a trend of quick chess moves played by women. That will confound the male species.

  3. Pensioners men's afternoon hobby. A nice place to congregate, and to be in the open air.

  4. This is a wonderful idea and would be so fun to play chess like this. I would definitely challenge someone, were I there. Great captures.

  5. I've seen similar boards in some other cities across the world. I don't know how to play it either as I find it too time-consuming and boring. Maybe ideal for a pensioner with plenty of time on their hands!

  6. Large outdoor chess boards make chess a bit of a spectator sport. Chess is not as popular here as it used to be.

  7. Chess requires too much thinking and planning ahead. Heck, I can't remember what I came into this room for.

  8. Unusual to see a board of this size. There's a park here that has two or three embedded boards on tables. When the weather's warm, it's not uncommon to see at least one game going on.

  9. Een mooie manier om even te onthaasten.

  10. I wonder if the size of the board makes a difference in seeing moves. I would not like to have that audience second-guessing me.

  11. I would be at a distinct disadvantage not being able to see the "board" from above. :-)

  12. I would have to be in the audience as I don't have the patience to play chess even on a regular sized board.

  14. I used to enjoy playing with my dad but think it would be tricky on a big board like this :)
