It is not only canal houses we have in Amsterdam, there are some pretty big buildings at the Leidseplein (Leiden square). This is the "Stadsschouwburg" the city theater for stage performances of plays. It dates from 1894 after a previous building had burnt down.
At the left is the "American Hotel" built in 1902 in Jugendstil style. Amsterdam people always call the building "the Americain". They have a very stylish cafe with a terrace in summer.
And at another corner of the Leiden square is this "Hirsch building" dating from 1882. Originally built as fashion palace of the Belgium Hirsch family. It was a very posh place but unfortunately this all has gone and now an "Apple store" has opened its doors in the lower parts.
Belos e magníficos edifícios com histórias por contar.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.
Such grand buildings. Much nicer than the steel and glass towers being built around London at present
