The "Bulldog Palace", this lively Grand Cafe was opened on April Fools Day 1985, to play a joke on the city of Amsterdam as nobody would believe that the former cop-shop had turned into the Bulldog. It houses namely also a coffeeshop with a separate entrance, where you can buy soft drugs. Rather peculiar for a former police station of which you can still see the sign on the facade.
Anyway they placed recently this glass facade in front, that caught my attention for James' "Weekend Reflections"
There is a standing joke here in North America about police hanging out at coffee shops. So I got a chuckle that the police station is now a coffee shop.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenCute name for a coffee shop. I like the new glass facade, makes it nicer to sit "almost" outdoors if the weather isn't good.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAn Interesting coffee shop.
BeantwoordenVerwijderen"soft drugs"...what is that?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHashish and Marijuana
VerwijderenI think Amsterdam must be a little more relaxed about 'soft drugs' Marianne :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenRather odd for a coffee shop, too, although I guess you could call caffeine a soft drug. :-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe cop shop converted to a drug shop could only be opened on April Fool's Day.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat's a good name for the place.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenZoiets kan alleen maar in Nederland :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's a little ironic about being a former police station and now selling pot.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPolice and drugs .. just in Amsterdam :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBut the reflection is nice.
Very cool building!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAmsterdam is very liberal!
