A Gable

A restored gable at a house in Amsterdam dating from 1742. In animal symbolism the ostrich is an example of "strenght through resistance" and the story is the ostrich can digest the stone and iron in his stomach. But with a stone or horseshoe in its beak, he is also a symbol of vigilance and alertness. The original house where the gable was placed has been demolished and it is replaced on a former bathhouse from 1924.

You can see it here at the far left side. Linking to "Signs, signs2"

  2. It's good that they didn't try to demolish such a strong symbol! I hadn't heard that the ostrich was so symbolic. Maybe only in your country.

  6. Honestly, the ostrich doesn't strike me as a symbol of strength. Maybe I need to get to know them better. :-)

  13. I like it!! It's quite different and the ostrich is not a bird that readily comes to my mind.
