Harbour Days

At the Harbour Festivities in Almere Haven the visitors could  have a sail with a Dutch "Botter".
The "Botter"is an old Dutch type vessel with a flat or slightly V-shaped face. The type originated in the 2nd half of the 18th century and was used for fishing on the former Southern Sea, but also for coastal fishing in the North Sea.

It has big brown sails but they used the motor by a lack of winds.

Of course there were also visitors who showed their own boats. The red one in front is the lifeboat of our village which gave some demonstrations.

  3. The botter looks sturdy. But, gracious! I'd hate to be caught in a storm in such an open boat.
