Road works

I think it is in other big cities the same but summer in Amsterdam is always time to break up the streets. Although it is autumn now the work is not yet done.

It always causes massive traffic jams in the city.

But this road worker is quietly making a nice pattern with the cobblestones. Watch the piece of wood against the shop, that has been used to make the proper curves.

  4. Oh that looks familiar Marianne, they are doing such a good job of laying the cobbles, it's going to be worth all the hassle in the end!

  6. The end result of your road construction projects are always beautiful with their brickwork and cobblestones, unlike ours with black asphalt.

  7. Here they do the work in the fall when the summer tourists have left. Right now there is a massive roadwork project being done on the main highway causing us all big delays and lots of waiting in line. It will take six months to finish! And it is just normal, no pretty cobblestones and bricks like yours.

  10. Your post reminds me of the street they just started digging up here in D.C. The deconstruction and construction are expected to take three years!

  11. Dearest Marianne,
It may cause traffic jam but one also has to stop and admire this extraordinary craft of working with the cobblestones.
    Hugs and happy weekend.

  12. Helsinki city center looked just same a few years ago, when walking street was laying of stone paving. But the end result is really beautiful.
It is disgusting, when every summer the streets are torn open. Always.
