Demolition area

This  is all seen in a demolition neighbourhood in the centre of Amsterdam where lots of graffiti artists used to live.

Even the municipal planters were painted by them.

A flamingo on the wall of a now empty building.

Construction activities are in full swing.

I hope not another big tourist hotel will rise up here. People of Amsterdam need houses to live in.

  4. Oh I'm not liking the sound of this Marianne.. in the centre of town south like the perfect spot for a hotel development, you get so many tourists in Amsterdam.. hopefully I'm wrong and it's going to be apartments.. you'll have to follow up for us!

  6. D.C. went through major urban renewal over the past couple of decades. Good for the rich, not so much for anyone who isn't.

  8. I like the flamingo and the planter. I just wish for more restoration instead of demolition.

  10. Looks like a huge job, hopefully it will benefit those who need housing.

  11. We have a similiar problem here. luxury condos are built that the average worker can't afford. They are pushed to the outskirts and our public transportation is not as good as yours!

  12. Lots of rebuilding in your country. I hope they don't lose all the ambiance of the old districts.

  13. Too bad about the flamingo. If Amsterdam follows what I've seen elsewhere, the new housing will be so expensive that only the rich can afford it. Where is everyone else expected to live? Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
