Orphanage

The orphanage in Gouda was built in the first half of the seventeenth century and served until just before the First World War. After this period te building was in use by various schools. Until 2014 Gouda's Public Library was located in the beautiful restored building.

Above the gate which gives access to the courtyard is a plaquette with two orphans and Gouda's city weapon.

The building in the courtyard.

With a terrace.

  3. What an amazing building, not too sure about the iron bars on the windows, makes it look a bit like a prison.
    Take care, Gordon.
