A building in Amsterdam with a turbulent history. In 1982 the building was squatted to prevent demolition for the construction of new appartments. Illegal evictions by thugs failed and in 1992 the squatters prevented a house-ordered expulsion by buying the property. They expressed their creativity by painting the facade. It houses now a cafe and some creative spaces.

Good they saved an old building and the squatters now have a secure home, I don't care much for what they've done to the facade though. Just my opinion ....
BeantwoordenVerwijderenStreetart blijft je verbazen. Mooie foto!

Aren't you happy that something positive is happening in that building!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe building certainly has a interesting history. The mural must have been difficult to paint around all those windows.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAt the least the building was saved from demolition.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks for participating Marianne.
een gebouw met een bewogen geschiedenis Marianne
BeantwoordenVerwijderenmaar die muurschildering maakt me niet enthousiast
prettige dag
Gosh that's quite a story behind this mural Marianne.. I never thought I'd say this, but good on the squatters for holding out!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFascinating mural - it reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle still awaiting completion.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTurbulent indeed, Marianne!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat is quite a history! I love how they've recognized the past with the mural.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt shows you the power people have when they band together. They saved a building and found a home. The mural is a good reminder for its past history.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey saved the building!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe history of the building writ large on its walls, eh?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat find.
