Monday Mural

A building in Amsterdam with a turbulent history. In 1982 the building was squatted to prevent demolition for the construction of new appartments. Illegal evictions by thugs failed and in 1992 the squatters prevented a house-ordered expulsion by buying the property. They expressed their creativity by painting the facade. It houses now a cafe and some creative spaces.

  1. Good they saved an old building and the squatters now have a secure home, I don't care much for what they've done to the facade though. Just my opinion ....

  4. The building certainly has a interesting history. The mural must have been difficult to paint around all those windows.

  10. It shows you the power people have when they band together. They saved a building and found a home. The mural is a good reminder for its past history.
