Auschwitz monument

The National Holocaust Remembrance is the commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust organized by the Dutch Auschwitz Committee on the last Sunday in January. The ceremony coincides with the commemoration of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentrationcamp on January 27 1945.

The Dutch artist Jan Wolkers made in 1977 this Mirror Monument in the Wertheim Park in Amsterdam with the text "Never again Auschwitz ". With the broken mirrors the artist expresses the idea that after Auschwitz the sky will never be undamaged again.
Between 15 July 1942 and 3 September 1944 more than 107.000 Jews were deported from the Netherlands. Only 5200 survived the Nazi concentration camps and returned.

  9. I saw the movie The Twins over the weekend, and then took part in a discussion group about that movie. It was a moving (fictitious) story qabout twin girls separated during WWll. One going to Germany the other to The Netherlands.
