The Amsterdam Museum has an exhibition "Fashion Statements" about fashion and identity now and then. It was a comparison between historical costumes from the eighteen and nineteen centuries and the modern ones.
I must say I didn't appreciated this idea very much, the modern ones were very over the top.
I prefer to see the delicate handwork of the old black ones.
The modern black. Have a look at the website of the Museum "here".
I can see clearly from these photos the influence the Dutch had upon our colonists.

A fun exhibit. Although the older clothing were things that were really worn in the day. The today’s example not so much.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFantastic vintage clothing.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt must be an interesting exhibition Marianne. The modern ones are really over the top as you say :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat last "modern" black dress would have trouble getting on a boat or a tram!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHmmm...over the top is right. I'm not sure that is really a very fair comparison.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFascinating!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFeeds the imagination, M! Thanks
BeantwoordenVerwijderenClothes in past look so hot.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenCoffee is on
It's interesting seeing what people wore back in the day.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe old ones really show the subtly of talent. The new ones are WOW! But I am like you. Something about the old is alluring.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSome of the clothes of old wee very very fancy.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenCan you imagine wearing the last dress here, would certainly make a grand entrance 😉
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey all look very uncomfortable! How would the last dress ever pass through a doorway??
