In the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam is a retrospective of the works of the Dutch-Polish photographer Boris Kowadlo (1911-1959). He was 19 years old fled from Poland to Amsterdam, began his photo career just after World War II with impressive pictures of the dilapidated Jewish quarter of Amsterdam, making clear what the Holocaust has had devastating effects and the emptiness in which the survivors had to go. In the fifties he travelled twice to the young state of Israel and made many photo's of his hope for the future in this country.
Yes, that girl has the smile of Hope and faith. New joys were coming to her life.
